Bang-Bang Club  ( Andros Island , Bahamas

March 7-14, 2008

If anyone in the group is looking for something new, exciting, and unusual, then this is the trip to be on. The Bang-Bang is one of the oldest, most famous lodges anywhere in the Caribbean . Originally founded in the 50’s as a small hunting and fishing lodge on a remote island in between the North and Middle Bights, the lodge has been closed for many years. Recently, the lodge was totally renovated, and is now “back in business” as a full service fishing operation. Run by the well-known Charlie Smith (originator of the Crazy Charlie) and his son Eddie, the overall experience, the historical attributes, and the location make this a truly amazing option. As a fairly bare-bones operation, this is a not a lodge for everyone – especially non-fishing spouses. They do, however, have clean and comfortable rooms, good food, a seasonal pool, and a location that is second-to-none. They can accommodate a maximum of 10 anglers a week. Again, this week is planned as a hard-core fishing trip, and the Bang Bang is not a trip for non-anglers and non-fishing spouses. We have lined up five of the top guides on Andros , including Charlie and Eddie Smith, and Benry Smith. This will be a great week filled with long days on the water and a lot of shots at very large Andros bonefish. As we discussed in an earlier email, this is a very good week with regard to moon phases. With regard to tides and optimal tide cycles, the big advantage is that the Bang Bang Club is located equidistant between the East Side of Andros and the West Side . This means that you will be fishing the side where the tides are optimal for that given fishing day and the applicable times. No other operation down there offers this kind of fishing flexibility with regards to tides.

Here are some things to keep in mind about the Bang Bang Club:

  1. The accommodations and amenities are comfortable, but they are not fancy. This is a fishing camp, and it’s main draw is the location of the operation. You will be staying on a small island in the middle of the Bight – one of the most productive fisheries on Andros . The food is good, the rooms are comfortable, but it is not a high-end resort by any means!  The real draw with the Bang-Bang is location, Charlie and his guide staff, and the fishery itself.
  1. This is pretty much a destination for focused anglers. We will not try and tell you that it is suited for non-anglers and non-angling spouses, because it is not.  This is primarily a location for people that want to fish long, hard days. Other than fishing, there is very little to do other than swim, tie flies, drink Kalik Beer, or sit on the beach/dock.
  1. Traveling to Andros and the Bang Bang is pretty straightforward. We strongly recommend that group members access Andros via Ft. Lauderdale , Florida , where Continental offers direct, reliable service to and from Andros Town on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Yellow Dog can of course assist with all of these travel details and itineraries.
  1. The focus at the Bang Bang is bonefish. While fish on this part of Andros average 3-4 pounds, it is very likely that members of the group will have many shots at fish in the 4-8 pound category, with possibilities for bonefish in the double digits. This is why you go to Andros !  The bonefish are large, and there are a lot of them. The guides of the Bang Bang love hunting for trophy bones, and will pole deeper water looking for the larger fish. There are possibilities for some tarpon and even some permit on the West Side of Andros. These species are considered a bonus however, and require a little longer run each day.
  1. The Bang Bang only recently re-opened, so your group will be among the first to fish out of the lodge. It will definitely be something new and different!

OPTION #2 – LOS ROQUES

SIGHTCAST OUTFITTERS AND ACUARELA LODGE – LOS ROQUES, VENEZUELA

March 14-21, 2008
http://www.yellowdogflyfishing.com/destinations.php?destinationID=100 )

For those is the group looking for a place where they can bring a non-angling significant other, then this is the place that they will want to look at.  Keep in mind that we can do a trip for two people or 20 people on this week – the group can be as small or as large as you want it to be!  Los Roques is a beautiful destination that – while still fairly remote – offers a variety of non-angling activities. Excellent beaches, great swimming, snorkeling, eco-tours, hiking, exploring the town and the island are all easy options. There are also a number of dive operations on the island, meaning that members of the group can dive on any or all of the days that they are there. Accommodations through this package are at Posada Acuarela, the nicest lodging option on Gran Roque. Very nice and comfortable rooms and excellent food are the norm at Acuarela. I have been to Los Roques several times myself, and my wife has joined me twice. She loves it down there! The lodge is very flexible and non anglers may join the anglers during the fishing days if they want. For the non-anglers, the usual plan is that the lodge takes them every day to the beach with umbrella, cooler with lunch, etc. to spend the day at the beach.

The fishing is again, primarily bonefish. Fish average 3-4 pounds, with fish in the 5-7 pound range very common. Larger, trophy bones are also found on a regular basis. One nice thing about Los Roques is that 95% of the fishing is done while wading the flats and walking the beaches. If you are someone who likes to wade, then THIS IS THE SPOT!  The lodge usually takes 10 anglers, but for your group they have offered to bring on an additional guide, bumping the maximum number of fishing spots for the group to 12.

The only thing to consider about this trip (some people consider it a negative, but in reality it is very simple and easy) is that you will usually have to overnight on the mainland (usually in Macuto or LaGuaira on the coast) on both your arrival and departure nights. This is all part of the package, and we have excellent transfer agents that are with you every step of the way to handle every detail. This means that you will have five nights on Gran Roque, two nights on the mainland, and 6 days of fishing in a standard package.

LOS ROQUES – SIGHTCAST OUTFITTERS RATES

$3,575.00 per angler, all inclusive

$2,340.00 non angler rate

$1875.00 kids rate (10 and under)

WHAT’S INCLUDED
First and last night of lodging on mainland, five nights lodging on Los Roques, six days of guided fishing, round trip private airport transfers, round trip air from Caracas to Los Roques, three meals per day, fishing licenses and permits, beer and soft drinks.

WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED
International flight to Caracas, meals and beverages in Macuto and La Guaira, alcohol, gratuities for guides and staff, Los Roques National Park Entry Fee (approx. US$13,) items of a personal nature such as phone calls, laundry or room service, domestic departure tax (approx. US$7,) and international departure tax (approx. $32 as a tourist.)

OPTION #3 – BAHAMAS / LOS ROQUES COMBO TRIP

BAHAMAS – LOS ROQUES TWO WEEK COMBO

March 7-21, 2008

This is a totally customized, totally unique package, allowing you to fish two of the world’s best bonefish destinations in a two week period.  Head to Andros for a week of hard-core fishing, and then meet your family in Miami for the flight down to Venezuela and a week on Los Roques. March 7-14 at the Bang Bang Club, with an early morning return to the US and Miami through Nassau on the March 14. An afternoon flight down to Caracas will have you in Venezuela the same day.  Yellow Dog will handle all aspects of your transfers, ensuring a smooth and easy transfer day.

Rates, details and inclusions are the same as with the individual options listed above. (The cost for an angler would be $3440.00 + $3575.00 = $7015.00 double occupancy.)

We certainly do not expect that everyone will want to do the combo trip, but for a few of the group, this will be an ideal two-week adventure!
