Ok, picture this!  Atlantic Salmon fishing 500 years ago.  Well, certainly, we wouldn't have been there but thanks to modern travel, we might just get a 'taste' of this.  The Ekaluk River - originally known as the  Ekaluktuuk River to the indiginous Inuit people - is located approximately forty-five miles northwest of Cambridge Bay on Nunavut’s Victoria Island and originates from the huge Ferguson Lake and empties into the Arctic Ocean in Wellington Bay just five miles from the outlet of the lake. The Ekaluk river is the principal migration route for huge numbers of Arctic Char returning from the ocean to inland spawning grounds in and around Ferguson Lake.  The Ekaluk river is a “medium sized river” and fishable along its entire length. With its many rapids, runs and pools the Ekaluk river is ideally suited for fly fishing. Prior to the year 2000, this “pearl of rivers” was virtually unknown to the world’s fly fishing fraternity.

Usually, sea-run Arctic char are not fished on anywhere the same scale as other anadramous fish simply due to the huge logistical problems faced in travelling to their home waters.  The arctic char is not a salmonid like the Atlantic Salmon, however, its range basically complements the range of its famous cousin.  Considered by some to be one of the hardest fighting fresh-water fish to be caught on the fly, the quality of fishing, the remoteness of the location and the stark beauty of the isolated landscape make this one of the more exotic fly fishing destination-trips in the world today.

The trip is basically invitation-only and guests will be hosted by B & J Flyfishing Adventures . Members will travel  to Cambridge Bay - principal town on Canada's second largest island (Victoria) in the high arctic.  From there, the guests will be transported to the tent camp along the Ekaluk River.

In addition to the fishing, this is an amazing venue for wildlife as many bird species in addition to animals such as the musk ox, arctic foxes and the odd tundra grizzly bear will add to the stark beauty of the region.

In short, this is nothing less than an 'adventure'.
