PPS Destinations Report Grand Bahama Island, BahamasDate: May 8 - 13, 2009Reported by Dr. Kenneth Spint, California USA Water’s Fished: North side of island, East and West flats Outfitter/Lodge/Guide: Grand Bahama Bonefishing, Pinder Brothers. Personal Guide: Joseph Pinder Booking Agent: Mosby Volger (jmvoglersr@gmail.com) Outfitter/Guide Ratings: Excellent, skilled in all aspects of guiding, and a lot of fun to be with. With this guiding outfit one gets to know all four brothers, and they all have a great sense of humor and couldn’t be more accommodating. Airline/Level of Service: Continental Air with good service, although coming home we had mechanical problems on all three legs but it did not delay arrival. Species Fished: Bone fish — no permit or tarpon seen Description of Catch: 3 1/2 days of fishing with one day of heavy dark cloud cover that really reduced fishing opportunities, but still was presented with 12-15 opportunities/day for large fish (5-10+ lbs.). Most of the fish were caught with a 45-65 foot cast. My average catch was 5-7/day with average weight. of 4 lbs. with my largest 27 inches (7+ lbs.). I caught no small bones, and most of the opportunities were to 1-4 fish, with only an occasional school. Also caught, several snappers, small barracudas, and skip jacks that were not fished for but were more aggressive than the bones getting to the fly. Type of Fishing: Sight fishing from poled 17’ Dolphin boat with leaning bar Equipment Used: 7 & 8 fly rod with 10’, 10 lb. leader Flies Used: A variety from ghost shrimp to dark gotchas, 4 - 6 - 8, bead to lead eyes.
