PPS Destinations Report Jupiter River, Anticosti Island, Quebec, CanadaDate: August, 2007Reported by Dr. Raymond Charbonneau, Quebec, Canada Jupiter River Camp 12 is located on Anticosti island
just off Quebec's east coast. Normally, it is very difficult to get a
reservation as the parties book year after year therefore, you Camp 12 is just paradise for Atlantic salmon and, as with all salmon fishing of course, it must rain to have good water levels for optimal fishing. This is particularly the case on the Anticosti Rivers, which tend to drop very quickly. As it turned out, my week was excellent with seven big salmon landed and released, 2 grilse kept and 20 sea trout. The lodging is of 5-star quality and the surrounding scenery simply gorgeous. Meals are equal to the best restaurants in Montreal and the guides are excellent; speaking both French and English. In addition, the staff are excellent and do everything they can to please you during your stay. As far as the river and fishing conditions are concerned, the pools are generally not very large, so you rarely see your backing during the fight. Nevertheless, when you do have a hook-up, those salmon are jumpers, at least four jumps on everyone I hooked. To increase the sport, I used an 8 foot rod and a small reel to have fun in most of the pools. Cost for the week is $4500Can plus taxes; otherwise, every thing else, including an open bar, is included. In addition it costs approximately $1000 for the flight between Montreal and Port Menier. Port Menier is small and the only village on Anticosti Island; population 240. Deer are everywhere on the island and act just as your dog in the village. So tightlines!
