PPS Destinations Report

Pesca Maya Lodge, Mexico

Date:        Mid- December, 2008

Reported by Dr. Raymond Charbonneau, Quebec, Canada

I went to Pesca Maya Club for the first time mid December, taking 3 separate days fishing and  living in Puertos Adventuras in an all inclusive package from Montreal.   I first went to the lodge in April 2008, attending a seminar which gave me the opportunity to evaluate the lodge and facilities.  In terms of fishing, I was informed that it is expected to be good all year.  I found, on both trips, that I was able to catch 4 to 12 bonefish per day, even though I spent 3 hours per day fishing for tarpon and permit.  Pesca Maya is a great place for bonefishing and you can expect to cast to them all day because the guides are excellent and can put you on fish whether you boat or wade fish.  You should not expect to encounter many permit or tarpon.  With all my efforts, I had one good chance for tarpon on my first trip which resulted in success and one chance on the second trip whereby I lost the fish.  When fishing for permit, I had  3 chances on the second trip in the same wading area with one very ok cast  but the guide called it a 'blind permit'.

The lodge itself is very comfortable,  considering you are in the middle of a Natural Park.  The food is good and Jorge, the manager, will always do his best to please you.

In conclusion, I would recommend any beginner or a fishermen who does not care about size (1 to 3 pounds bones) to go there for a great time  fishing  but with a little possibility of permit or tarpon.  Expect to catch many small bonefish.

Best regards to all,

Dr.  Raymond Charbonneau
