PPS Destinations Report

Wollaston Lake Lodge, Saskatchewan, Canada

Date:        June 2003

Reported by Dr. David M Jones, DDS, Chanute, Kansas., USA

Northeast Saskatchewan and the fishing it has to offer stirs many memories for me; not just battles with toothy predators or my first fish taken with a fly rod, but the times spent with family.  I have taken my dad, daughter, and most recently my son to the area.  The subject of this report is the Father's Day 2003 trip to Wollaston Lake Lodge that we enjoyed.

From the logo on the lodge china to the follow-up survey after the trip----no detail is missed by lodge owner Mike Lembke and his staff. They simply go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable. It seems everyone knows your first name from the moment you step of the charted flight from Winnipeg.  The organization of the lodge impressed me as much as the fishery.  The food, accommodations, boats, and main lodge are all five star.  This is one spot your spouse can really enjoy. Comfort!!!

The fishing in early June offered sight fishing shallow clear bays for large pike.  During our four-day stay one lucky fellow landed two  50" northerns.  My son and I recorded personal bests of 44 " and 45".  The 'takes' of those big boys is worth the trip for me.   Lake trout were also taken with sink-tip fly set up and trolling large spoons.  We also enjoyed grayling action with 3 and 4 wts.  Walleye were available for shore lunch and were caught from the river in front of the lodge.

The trip originates out of Winnipeg and the charter flight to the lodge makes traveling to this location a breeze----saving valuable office time. Daily fly-outs were available to multiple area lakes offering even more variety.  Additional information is available at www.wollastonlakelodge.com  Please contact me with any additional questions --- email dresoxlucius@yahoo.com

PS.  Editor's note:  Dr. Jones' email address attributes his love of the great northern pike.  Essox Lucius is the Latin name for pike.
